Okinawa in brief

Okinawa, located in the southernmost part of Japan, consists of 160 islands forming The Ryukyu Archipelago which stretches for 1300km long between Kyushu (one of Japan's main four islands) and Taiwan. Since it is the only prefecture that is subtropical, Okinawa enjoys its warm climate throughout the year with the average temperatures above 20 degrees.
Sitting in the geographically important area, which is a gateway to neighbouring Asian countries, long Okinawan history has fostered its distinctive culture. Okinawa became a trading centre under the Ryukyu Kingdom in the medieval era and had considerable influences from its trading partners. We can see the traces of the trade routes they used to voyage in Okinawan tradition.
Okinawa, blessed with natural advantages and cultural wealth, attracts thousands of tourists from over the world.
